Choosing threat modeling software is easier when you can see the trade-offs plainly. These pages compare ThreatTree with the tools teams most often consider alongside it. Each one says where the other tool is the better choice, and every fact about another product comes from its own documentation, release notes or pricing page, with the date we checked it.
Where ThreatTree fits
Threat modeling tools fall into three broad groups. Enterprise platforms such as IriusRisk, ThreatModeler and SD Elements generate threats from libraries and are sold through a sales process. Free tools such as the Microsoft Threat Modeling Tool, OWASP Threat Dragon and AWS Threat Composer are excellent for individuals and small projects. Code-based tools such as pytm and Threagile live in a repository and run in a pipeline.
ThreatTree sits between the first two groups. It's a hosted tool with a free plan and a published price, built for teams that want to model a few systems in depth: a data flow diagram of the architecture, attack trees for the threats that matter, a scored risk register built from them, and mitigations mapped to the standards auditors use.
